1960 Colt Python Revolver with the standard 6 inch barrel. The most famous and sought after of the Colt “Snake Guns” the Python went into production in 1955, however it did not become a cultural icon until the 1970’s with all of those redneck race car and truck driver movies such as “Smokey and the Bandit”. Nostalgia over this time period has vaulted the Python and Diamondback pistols to be the most sought after of Colt revelers supplanting even the Six Shooter. The quality was impeccable and the bluing was legendary so they certainly deserve the attention of the collecting community. Early production examples such as this are much rarer than the later guns from the time when they became so popular.
This Colt Python revolver is is outstanding condition. The bluing is 99% with no rust or pitting, no muzzle or holster wear, and a high lustre finish. The rifling remains incredibly sharp with no wear. The walnut grips have crisp, sharp checkering and retain their gold Colt badge on both sides. The cylinder locks up tight and dry fire is crisp and fast. In one of the most impeccable examples of a Colt Python we've seen, this firearm has been very well cared for and very rarely used over the past 64 years of its life. Serial number 10109 indicates a manufacturing date of 1960, just five years into the production of the Python.
This Colt Python revolver is preowned in excellent condition and does not come with the original box, paperwork, or accessories. This revolver cycles as expected, but we did not perform a test fire. All due diligence in maintenance and inspection should be performed before use.
